| Synopsis |
--"Best Fantasy Film" Award Winner, N.Y. International Independent Film Festival-- Trance is a film about magic, obsession, love and power. It is a supernatural thriller. A roller coaster ride where past meets present and the unknown is just one step behind you….Let me put my spell on you. Catherine Leoni (Tane McClure) is a connoisseur of the illusionary arts. She learned her craft from her grandfather, Henry Santorini (Harrison Young), a master magician – with a past. In her search for the fine line between reality and magic, she and her jealous mobster husband Robert (Martin Kove) take a trip to a once grand Opera House in Death Valley, along with Robert’s overly zealous henchman, Bongo (Robert Z’dar). The reason for their visit is to see a mysterious competitor, Taylor Black (Bruce Abbott), attempt to duplicate Santorini’s most death defying feat…the one that lead to his downfall. This ‘ill-fated’ illusion caused the death of his wife, who was also his assistant and left an eight-year-old Catherine to be raised in an orphanage. After the accident Santorini, deemed a fraud, became a recluse and never again practiced the art of magic. This dilapidated establishment run by Wally, The Garbage Man (Wade Wallace), is also a hotel. The current caretaker, he too loves mystical arts and claims he can smell ectoplasm a dozen feet away, and when he does so he holds long, seemly inane, conversations with the various apparitions. Charismatic Taylor Black professes he knows the true secret of levitation and also believes he can hold human souls in his hands. He and his conniving assistant Susan (Lauren Hays) are about to set-up and re-create the doomed stunt at the magicians’ hideaway. As Catherine becomes more drawn to Black, Robert’s jealousy heats up. Once again the trick leads to more death and destruction in a final showdown. Catherine determined to find the truth is now faced with a choice…find her own power or succumb to the TRANCE. |
